How To Write An Outstanding Nomination

We get asked often how to write an outstanding nomination. We put together this video to guide you through the process.

Nominations Rules

Nominees must be Registered Nurses who live or work in one of these counties: Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Erath, Hood, Hunt, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Somervell, Tarrant, Wise or Van Zandt.

  • The nomination letter should not include the nominee's name or specific identifications about the Registered Nurse (e.g., place of employment). This is to help aid in the blind judging process. Letters submitted that include nominee's name or other forms of identification will be disqualified without notice. Here are specific rules to follow.

    • Do not use a person’s name in part or in full.

      • Do not say: "Amy Koshy" or "Amy is a great nurse because..."

      • Instead, say: “This nurse is great because” or “She/he/they…”

    • Do not use a patient’s name in full.

      • Do not say: “This nurse became a favorite of a patient, Trinh Sanger.”

      • Instead, use an initial: “This nurse became a favorite of a patient, T.”

    • Do not identify the person’s place of employment.

      • Do not say: "at UT Southwestern."

      • Instead, say: “at the nurse’s place of employment” or “at the hospital or research center” or “at work.”

    • Do not call out a healthcare organization’s name if it is part of an award name or a community event.

      • Do not say: "She chairs the Texas Health Resources Faith Community Health Fair" or “He was part of the team that won the Texas Health and Human Services Innovators in Aging Award.”

      • Instead, say: “She chairs an annual community event that educates the public about healthcare” or “He was part of the team that won a prestigious statewide award for innovation.”

    • When in doubt, avoid naming specific organizations and instead describe the organization’s purpose or what they do. Acceptable examples:

      • “A statewide government organization recognized this nurse at their annual awards ceremony.”

      • “This nurse founded a nonprofit organization dedicated to mentoring Black nurses that has connected 100+ nurses in just a few months. They also serve on the board of a faith-based nonprofit, are active in their HOA and volunteer at the library.”

  • Please be prepared to address each of the questions below as it relates to the person(s) you are nominating. The word count for each section must be between 100 and 250 words. Winning entries have specific examples in all categories and feature good storytelling.

    • How has this individual been a role model?

    • What are this individual's leadership qualities?

    • How has this individual provided service to the community?

    • How has this individual exemplified compassionate caregiving?

    • What are this individual's significant contributions?

  • Past Great 100 recipients are not eligible to be re-nominated.
